    Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music (BIFEM) 2015
    (Cambridge University Press, 2016-01)

    Each September, contemporary music enthusiasts, composers, scholars and performers from around Australia migrate toward the Victorian regional city of Bendigo for BIFEM, a remarkable music festival now in its third year. The festival has established itself as an annual event of unparalleled significance in Australia – not only as a forum for the presentation of exciting and little-heard music, but as a gathering of like-minded peers. A high proportion of the audience consists of musicians and composers, so informal conversations between concerts are almost as stimulating as the programmed forums and workshops that take place during the festival. In 2015, over the weekend 4–6 September, almost every work in the programme was an Australian premiere, which gives some further evidence of the importance of the festival to the nation's cultural ecology.

    The Australian Army Uniform and the Government Clothing Factory
    (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018-02-23)

    This book reveals the business history of the Australian Government Clothing Factory as it introduced innovative changes in the production and design of the Australian Army uniform during the twentieth century. While adopting a Schumpeterian interpretation of the concept of innovation, Anneke van Mosseveld traces the driving forces behind innovation and delivers a comprehensive explanation of the resulting changes in the combat uniform. Using an array of archival sources, this book displays details of extensive collaborations between the factory, the Army and scientists in the development of camouflage patterns and military textiles. It uncovers a system of intellectual property management to protect the designs of the uniform, and delivers new insights into the wider economic influences and industry linkages of the Government owned factory.

    Maria Island: History and Landscapes 1825-1930
    (Navarine Publishing, 2024) ; ;
    Nash, Michael

    "Maria Island's European history is one of exploration and dispossession, incarceration and labour, resources and exploitation, entrepreneurship and tourism. This book is structured around four key touchstones from Maria Island's recent past - the two phases of convict occupation during the Penal Period (1825 - 32) and the Probation Period (1842 - 52), the optimistic tenure of the Bernacchi Period (1884 - 96), and the resource exploitation of the Industrial Period (1920 - 30). Of course, Maria Island's story stretches both backwards and forwards from these points, stories in which Aboriginals, whalers, farmers and park rangers figure prominently. Yet the landscape that we see today was primarily shaped by these four periods of occupation and it is through them that we can best piece together some of the story of this remarkable island."
